Valerie Dorian is a recognized development strategist with a passion for the intersection of worthy causes, global brands and integrated marketing to affect change. Leveraging her experience from the corporate and agency sectors, Valerie has empowered some of the nation’s most recognized nonprofit organizations – including Best Friends Animal Society, the National Park Foundation and The Nature Conservancy – to achieve transformational revenue growth and programmatic impact.
Valerie currently channels her talents as Senior Director, Development at Best Friends Animal Society, where she applies her prowess in fundraising, business development and marketing to cultivate sustainable funding across several diverse revenue streams. She currently leads the “Campaign to Save Them All,” the organization’s first comprehensive five-year fundraising campaign. Combining her flair for business intelligence and donor strategy, Valerie has successfully integrated major and principal gifts, corporate and foundation giving, and planned giving into this effort, positioning each funding stream for substantial growth in the coming years.
In addition, Valerie brings considerable expertise and interest in public-private alliances, and has developed innovative approaches to cause marketing and corporate partnerships in leadership roles at the National Park Foundation and The Nature Conservancy. She has successfully constructed partnerships across several industries with Fortune 500 companies and global brands alike, including Bank of America, Coca-Cola, Disney, Delta Air Lines, Macy’s, NBC Universal, and Subaru. Valerie’s partnerships – characterized by win-win results grounded in mission and business objectives – have garnered national media recognition and earned multiple Cause Marketing Forum Halo Awards.
Valerie has also had the opportunity to leverage her extensive brand and marketing experience in various communications and public engagement initiatives over the course of her career. Her signature project in this realm involved developing an updated global identity and messaging platform for The Nature Conservancy across 35 countries. She also played a leadership role in developing the “Find Your Park” fundraising and engagement campaign in honor of the centennial celebration of the National Park Service.
Early in her career, Valerie held marketing positions for business consulting firms including Accenture, American Management Systems and Ketchum Public Relations. She has a Master’s degree in Integrated Marketing Communications from Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism, and Bachelor’s degrees in Psychology and English Literature from Indiana University. Valerie hails from Chicago, and currently resides in Boston with her family.
