Alison Canavan’s extensive nonprofit fundraising experience includes membership, mid-level and major gifts, annual giving programs, corporate partnerships, cause marketing and foundation giving. Since joining Social Capital, Canavan has served as senior strategist to leading nonprofits and foundations, including Americares, the American Diabetes Association, American Heart Association, American Red Cross, CARE, Catie’s Closet, Chesapeake Bay Foundation, Community Health Charities, ChildFund International, Disabled American Veterans, FoodCorps, Girl Scouts of the USA, Land Trust Alliance, Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Mercy Corps, National 4-H Council, National Safety Council, USO and Vera Institute of Justice.

Previously, Canavan led the corporate membership and individual major gifts programs for the Center for American Progress, a nonpartisan think tank in Washington, D.C., and was a member of the corporate partnerships team at the American Red Cross, where she implemented cause marketing promotions, employee giving and volunteer programs in response to episodic events as well as for annual giving. She also served as the lead coordinator of the Annual Disaster Giving Program, which raises millions of dollars each year from corporate partners. Canavan began her career with the American Bar Association, where she provided administrative support and organized local and national recruitment events.

Canavan earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from American University.
